Shea Daspin, Influencer Marketing

It’s funny because the artwork we ran into sort of matches your aesthetic, with the pink dress in the photo and your pink hair. Can you tell me about your style inspiration?

Well, pink is my favorite color of all time. I’ve had pink hair for nine and a half years. I was drawn to this picture because of all the textiles and all the colors. I’m a maximalist with my style, so I like everything more—more colors, patterns, shapes, silhouettes, movement, texture. With this photo specifically, there’s plant life, there’s a figure here, there’s so many textiles, there’s a photograph in the photograph, there’s a carpet. There’s everything in this photo. So I was drawn to it from across the room.

What brings you here?

I just wanted to see a bunch of art. I was living in LA for four years and found it hard to go see art out there because of the driving. I didn’t love driving and going to the museums and the parking. It’s always difficult. I just moved back to New York a month ago after being gone for five years, so when I saw the Armory Show was happening I was like, I gotta go. I couldn’t convince any friends to come with me today because they were all busy, but I wanted to go anyway and see everything because I’ve been so devoid of art from my time in Los Angeles.

Do you feel like you could give a comparison of what the art scene is like in LA versus in New York?

I don’t know the art scene as well in LA, but from what I did see, it’s very showy. There’s a lot of street art, a lot of graffiti that I don’t love, a lot of pop art that I was seeing around. But in New York, when I see art, I feel like I get a much wider variety.

Do you get to be creative with your job in influencer marketing?

It’s more straightforward. It’s more being creative in the way I work and communicate with people. I was a fashion stylist for 15 years.

Tell us about that!

So I did that for a long time, but I recently switched to influencer marketing. My styling work was always very colorful, very bright, similar to this photo. Lots of patterns and texture and very maximalist. I never like to use the color black in my work. I love black, but I try to stay away from it in my styling work to stand out from everything else. It’s been a couple years since I haven’t been styling now, but I might go back to it eventually. It’s not gone for good. I always get dressed every morning excited to wake up and put on an outfit. So that still stays with me.

What sort of things were you styling for?

I was doing magazine editorials, advertising campaigns, e-commerce, red carpet, kind of everything that you could probably style for around the styling sphere.

What’s your proudest name drop moment?

I worked with Migos, where I did this really cool shirt for the cover of NME Magazine. That was quite a few years ago, but that was a fun one to work on.
