Avina-Kei, Lawyer

How do you think we’ve evolved in our understanding and acceptance of “queer”?
Rather than an evolution, we’re realizing that there’s more of a spectrum and diversity to what it means to be queer. Before, it was like “oh, my gay best friend is going to take me shopping”. And now I think people are realizing that queer doesn’t fit into one stereotype.

How as an attorney do you think you can make an impact on the recent immigration regulations that have been put in place under Trump?
I’m a fairly new attorney but I’m going to try to work for a legal aid in Virginia that is reaching out to a lot of the families that have been separated at the border. I feel like it is my duty as a citizen to raise awareness and help as many people as I can.
